Advancing the Legacy
With the 2021 redesign of the Chevy Suburban, the storied SUV enters its 12th generation and is the longest continuous use automobile nameplate after 85 years of production. The Suburban first got its start in 1934 and has been the cornerstone in the Chevy lineup ever since. As one of the first full metal body SUVs ever, the Suburban holds a special place in automotive history and continues that legacy with a dramatic redesign in its 12th generation.
Exterior
Longer and More Aggressive
The 2021 redesign brings the aggressive styling of the Silverado to bring a new personality to the legacy of Suburban. For the first time ever, the Suburban has seven trim levels, giving SUV customers more unique styles to choose from. The Z71 package in now available, bringing legendary off-road capability to the full size-and the newly added High Country trim brings higher levels of luxury to the lineup.
Modern LED Lighting
The new look LED Headlights and daytime running lights add an aggressive look to the Suburban. Inspiration for the angular design was taken from the 2019 Silverado redesign and gives the SUV a sleek and modern personality that comes standard on all trim levels. LED lighting can also be found in the back with angular LED taillights that complement the modern style.
Dynamic Body Design
With the longer body, the Suburban benefits from the longer proportions and accentuates the length in the design. More angular windows and stronger body lines add to the aggressive personality, giving the SUV a uniquely dynamic look. The overall body has moved away from the tall boxy design of the past and toward a longer and sleeker shape.
More Personalities
Seven different trim levels are now available, double previous years, giving customers more unique styles to choose from. The High Country trim was added and brings impressive luxury to the lineup with sophisticated chrome styling. In addition, the legendary Z71 off-road package was brought back giving customers a combination of all-terrain performance features. Now customers can choose from a diverse lineup with strong personality.
Legendary Z71
All-Terrain Beast
Driving enthusiasts will be excited to hear that the Z71 package is now available on the new 2021 models. The Z71 not only has an impressive list of added performance features it also has aggressive, athletic styling with dark gloss accents. The performance adjusted bumpers have high-clearance and a skid plate to improve off-road ergonomics. In addition, the Z71 comes equipped with air ride suspension that can adjust the height of the vehicle by up to 4 inches which improves the Z71's off-road capability even more.
Interior
Sophisticated Cabin
The cabin of the Suburban has it all, comfort, technology, and plenty of storage. The longer body and new rear suspension both allow for more interior space, including legroom for all three rows. With a range of high-quality materials and unique styles, each interior has a personality of its own that is carried by the attention to every detail.
Easy Connectivity
At the center of the newly designed cabin is the impressive 10 inch tablet-style display that comes standard on all trims. The system received a big bump in processing power making it five times more powerful and is capable of receiving software updates as more features are added. The system comes equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android auto for seamless connectivity with your smartphone.
Quality Materials
The Suburban is fit head to toe with high-quality, high-comfort materials that give the cabin a feel of sophistication and luxury. The use of real metal and genuine wood accents has both modern and classic appeal with noticeable attention to detail. In the more sporty Z71, the interior has a dark and aggressive feel that matches the athletic exterior personality.
Spacious Cabin
With just over 10 inches added to the overall length of the Suburban, the cabin made improvements of around two inches of legroom for each row resulting in the best legroom and cargo space of any SUV. The overall cargo space was bumped up to a best-in-segment 144.7 cubic feet, with the power fold down seats that make storage easier than ever. For the first time, the second row captain seats can be adjusted forward and backward to allow for impressive legroom and versatility.
Entertainment On The Go
This brand new rear entertainment system is fitted with two 12.6 inch HD displays that are located on the back of the front captain seats. The system easily connects to both USB and HDMI inputs and has unique screen-sharing features that make it the most advanced system in the segment. There's no guarantee that the kids will be quiet but this system is sure to keep them entertained.
Best-in-Class HUD
The new 15 inch Head-Up display is the largest in the segment and adds a modern feel to the driving experience. The display helps keep important information closer to the drivers sightline with the road, helping improve driver focus and overall safety.
Power Sliding Center Console
This innovative new feature improves the versatility of the cabin and allows for extra storage options. With a touch of a button the center console electronically moves backward up to 10 inches, opening up surface area and access to a hidden drawer as well as giving the second row easy access to the center console cup holders.

Advanced New Architecture
Chevy made great advancements in driving dynamics with a brand new architecture that features independent rear suspension and a longer chassis. The updated Suburban has better handling and handles rough terrain with ease for an overall ride quality that blows the competition out of the water. Magnetic Ride Control and the Air Ride Suspension System are advanced systems that bring the level of ride-quality to new levels that you have to experience for yourself.
6.2L EcoTec3 V8
Paired with a new Dynamic Fuel Management System, the upgraded 6.2L V8 outputs a best-in-class 420 horsepower. This Dynamic Fuel Management System adjusts the number of cylinders being used from two up to eight, depending on demand and is equipped with start/stop technology. These advancements result in a more efficient and powerful engine that also receives less wear and tear over time.
3.0L DURAMAX Diesel
In another move to push the segment forward, Chevy brought a 3.0L DURAMAX Diesel engine to the lineup that delivers a best-in-class 460 lb. ft. of torque. The newly added engine is very powerful while also benefiting from diesel fuel-efficiency and durability.
Advanced Suspension Systems
Newly available Advanced Suspension Systems, including Magnetic Ride control and Air Ride Suspension, bring new levels of ride-quality to the lineup. The Air Ride Suspension allows for four inches of height adjustment; raising to improve clearance while off-roading or lowering to improve aerodynamics and fuel-efficiency on the highway. The Magnetic Ride Control brings impressive smoothness to all road conditions by scanning the road and automatically adjusting the damping force. The result is a suspension that handles rough roads with ease and provides the smoothest ride possible.
Safety
The Newest in Active Safety Technology
Chevy's active safety technology gives drivers an extra set of eyes that scans the road in areas the driver can't see. In addition to the growing list of active safety tech, Chevy made improvements to the high-strength steel frame and airbag system to protect passengers in a collision. The Suburban also features active safety tech that is standard for all trims including Forward Collision Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking.
