When it comes to plug-in hybrids, there may not be one out there that can compete with the Chevy Volt when it comes to overall value. The Chevy doesn't just offer great mileage, it also boasts an amazing driver experience thanks to its solid handling and technology. For the Volt's 2019 model, a number of updates have been made adding innovative technology to take you even further on a single charge.
Exterior
Modern Design
A beautifully sculpted exterior enhances the appeal of the Chevy Volt. The Volt features an aerodynamic, sleek body style with modern accents that give the Volt a unique style.The front of the Volt features two silver accent panels that make up the grill and have an angular, modern style. These panels give the Volt a clear identity and are sure to turn heads on the road.
Bright LED Headlights
The headlights are fitted with LED low beam headlamps and signature LED daytime running lights that add to the modern appearance and provide bright white light to illuminate the road. The tail lights also have a very modern design and are frames with gloss black accents.
Glossy Accents
The modern styling of the Volt can be partially attributed to the unique gloss black accents that are found both around the mirror and on the rear of the vehicle. The gloss black accents create a modern two-tone style that fits closely with the design of the rest of the plug-in hybrid.
Interior
Spacious Cabin
The new Chevy Volt is spacious from the front so the driver and the front-seat passenger will have ample space to spread out. Chevy did a great job of laying out the interior with the passenger in mind, giving the back seat plenty of legroom and available rear heated seats.
Unique Interior Styling
The modern exterior styling is also found in the interior design with the unique stitching on both the standard cloth seats as well as the available leather seats. This stylish stitching stands out most with the available Porcelain Blue leather. The stitching closely resembles the design of the front grill accents and adds to the unique identity of the Volt.
Digital Instrument Cluster
The most eye-catching interior feature is the large Digital Instrument Cluster. This digital speedometer displays a wide range of vehicle diagnostics as well as a real-time readout of how much battery is being used vs gasoline. The digital speedometer is very user friendly and makes conserving gas rewarding and easy.
Convenient Tech
Every model of this new electric vehicle boasts an impressive 8.0-inch touchscreen with Infotainment 3 system. Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, and a mobile hotspot are standard. Unlike other plug-in hybrids, the electric powertrain of the Volt doesn't eat up a lot of cargo capacity and will give you enough space for long roadtrips.
Performance
Impressive Range
The Chevrolet Volt stands out with its amazing 53 miles of pure electric range. The Volt doesn't just offer impressive pure-electric range but is also fun to drive. Rest assured that the driving experience won't be compromised at the cost of hybrid features.
The powertrain of the Volt contains a 1.5-liter, 4-cylinder engine that produces 149 horsepower. Once this gas engine kicks in, you get 420 miles of total range.
53Battery Range
The Lithium-Ion battery aboard the Volt has a 53 mile range when only the battery is used. The battery range outperform many other plug-in hybrids including the Honda Clarity and Toyata Prius Prime
420Full Range
When the full hybrid system is working together the Volt can travel 420 miles on a single charge and full tank. This impressive range is very competitive among other plug-in hybrids.
1,100AVG Between fill-ups
When previous Volt owners were surveyed they were traveling an average of 1,100 miles between trips to the gas station. This is including regular charging overnight to make the most of the battery.
Regenerative Braking
Instead of using a traditional braking system, the Chevy has opted for regenerative braking. This system recaptures kinetic energy that would otherwise go to waste and uses it to recharge the vehicles battery.
Regen on Demand
The Volt also uses a unique feature called Regen on Demand. This gives the driver the ability to use a paddle on the steering wheel to slow the car down and convert the kinetic energy back to energy to be transferred to the battery. This innovative system helps improve the fuel efficiency and is quite fun to use.
Energy Readouts
All the energy saving stats are shown to the driver through multiple detailed energy screens that give readouts like energy usage scores. These well designed interfaces give the driver great detail to how much fuel they are saving but more importantly how their driving affects the overall efficiency.
Fast Charging
Chevy offers two different charging options with a basic 120 volt station and a fast 240 volt station. The 120 volt station comes standard and provides a full charge in 13 hours of charging. The faster 240 volt station provides a full charge in as little as 4.5 hours.
